Bergen

June 16 & 17
Our holiday started with our flight to Bergen, Norway. It was not without difficulties. Our flight out of Detroit was delayed for weather, and when we got hit with hail, more time was required to examine the plain for damage. We left about 2 hours late and so missed our connection in Paris by about an hour. We were put on another flight that took us to Bergen by way of Amsterdam. From the Bergen Airport, we had to figure out how to get tickets for the train to get us close to our hotel. That let us off near a park where we got directions to our hotel.

All of these adventures had us a bit crabby, but we were happy to finally arrive at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, a very nice hotel. The first 2 pictures below are of the interior of the Bryggeloftet & Stuene Restaurant where we had dinner. After that, we wandered about the town where they were celebrating Bergenfest, so we could often hear distant music and saw festively dressed people. We found where our ship was docked, so the next couple of pictures are of Le Dumont d’Urville.

After a good night sleep, we still had some time to explore before we needed to get to our ship. There were some minor snags boarding as there were some documents we were never sent, and because no one in Paris stamped my passport, but everyone was extremely helpful and we made it to our lovely cabin. After some orientation in the form of a Life On Board Talk and a mandatory life boat drill, the ship set sail and we settled into our cruise. The last four pictures show our cabin and balcony.
