Sunset Crater

After visiting Walnut Canyon, we drove up to see Sunset Crater, which we had glimpsed when we were at Cinder Hills Overlook. This is the place where a volcano erupted about 900 years ago. Twisted black rock marks where lava once flowed and large slopes of black gravel show where volcanic cinders fell.
