The Road to Flagstaff (Jerome & Sedona)

So today we set out to travel from Chandler to Flagstaff, and we decided to take the scenic route. We stopped in Jerome, which some call a ghost town, but it looked pretty lively to me. I guess that it used to be a major mining town and is now just a tourist stop is what earns it the title of ghost town. I think some of the historic buildings are no longer in use, except for tourism, so portions of the town are dead. Actually, I don’t know what I’m talking about because we only stayed long enough to take in the view and snap some photos. Then we headed out to our next stop, Sedona.

It’s easy to see why Sedona attracts artists. The countryside is astonishingly beautiful. I took some gorgeous photos without leaving this town. We walked around a fair bit, snapping photos and walking by the river. This looks like a place that might deserve more attention, if not on this trip, then maybe another.

I did get some video in both of these locations, but focused more on snapshots. On the other hand, as Martha took the wheel and drove us away from Sedona toward Flagstaff, I got out the video camera and captured the obligatory vacation home movie shot through the windshield of a moving vehicle video. I haven’t had a chance to edit or even review the video I’ve recorded so far, but the scenery on this route was stunning. I only hope that I captured a tenth of what it was like in person.

Here are the pictures we took on our brief stop in Jerome. This is supposed to be some kind of ghost town that used to be a mining town.

It’s easy to see why artists flock to Sedona. This town is nestled in some of the most beautiful country I have seen. I just love the way these photos turned out.
