We Have Arrived

September 18, 2009
It’s nearly 5 PM now and we are on the Irish clock. Customs was a breeze, and picking up the rental car was pleasant. Driving it was nerve racking, but we got here safely. That whole combination of sitting on the right, driving on the left, navigating roundabouts, and adjusting to a new car was a lot to take in all at once. I’m thankful for having both the GPS and Martha to help me. With Martha’s help, I managed to hit the curb on the left only twice (so far). I also discovered after we were under way that the steering wheel is obstructing my view of the speedometer. I need to see about adjusting that. Once we got off the big roads, the challenge was to do a lot of driving on roads that really doesn’t have room for traffic in two directions, and pulling to the side to make room can be difficult, especially with the speeds the other drivers are traveling at.
Landing at Rigney’s Farm was a joy and a relief. Joe met us outside, helped us in, and made us tea with bread, butter and locally made marmalades. After a little decompressing, we all took naps for about four hours. Still a bit jet lagged, but adjusting. I’ll eventually get up my nerve to drive again and take us out somewhere for dinner. For now, if your keeping glued to this blog you may have noticed, I have access to the internet and am posting these updates.
I took some photos around the farm, as well as some video. I think I’ll post some of those photos, but wait until I have more energy to edit any of the video.
Here is some video I took at the Rigney’s Farm Bed & Breakfast on our first day in Ireland. This was a walk we took after a four hour nap.
This is just a short clip of the new born pigs we saw on the farm, one of which we saw being born. Which one it was, I can’t tell you.
