On Our Way

We are on the first flight of our journey, from Detroit to Newark. My dad just pointed out hat my mom is keeping a log of the trip. She’s using pen and paper while I’m using the computer. Seeing writing about the flight, and she hasn’t flown since about 1962, prompted me to take out my laptop and start writing as well. Aside from s mall hiccup checking in, it’s been smooth sailing so far. It’s fun and easy traveling with my parents, and everyone is in good spirits. We are starting our decent now (4:23). More later.

Sitting at our gate in the Newark airport now. More sitting. I got to see something on the descent that I hadn’t seen before. As we were passing through the second layer of clouds, I saw the shadow of our airplane on the clouds. It was cool to see the shadow jump far away and back again as we passed clouds that were far and near. There also appeared to be a halo of sunlight around the shadow much of the time.
We had lunch before boarding at the Detroit airport. I picked up 3 turkey club sandwiches and ice teas at the Einstein Bagels place for my parents and me, and Martha got chili at Wendy’s. The sandwiches were really good; hot with some southwest sauce on them. The ice tea turned out to be a strawberry tea and was quite sweet. I’m having a pretty good time considering that we’re just flying and sitting. I think it must be the company I’m keeping.
